About Me
My name is Scott Osmond (he/him), and I am an avid adventurer, photographer, and writer. I grew up in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador but eventually moved to St. John’s where I studied in Civil Engineering, Geography, and Earth Sciences at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador. I am passionate about storytelling, both natural and built heritage preservation, geography, and travelling. In between researching, writing, and planning the next adventure I like to spend my time kayaking, cycling, or simply enjoying a beer at a local craft brewery.
Hidden Newfoundland
In 2014 I established HiddenNewfoundland.ca as a place to share Newfoundland’s lost stories, hidden places, and natural wonders in hopes that it would bring awareness for each locations historic, cultural, and geologic significance and also provide others with a new place to explore and an adventure to find. At first, I had little expectations for the website and treated it as a personal site where I could collect pictures and information on both places I had already visited or had aspired to in the near future. However, it quickly grasped the attention of fellow explorers, historians, and curious minds and soon expanded becoming featured in both local and national media outlets.
At the time I was working through completing my degrees and soon the work required to maintain, promote, and create content became overwhelming leading to a brief intermission in activity on the site. I did however continue to find time for travelling and writing and after graduating came up with the idea of transforming both my old and new content into a guidebook that would complement any explorers, historians, or curious mind’s bookshelf or travel bag.
In 2021 I began working with the well-known east coast publisher, Boulder Books to create the guidebook; Hidden Newfoundland: 120+ ghost towns, natural wonders, and other off-the-beaten-path destinations which after delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic was finally released in stores at the beginning of January 2022.
Hidden Newfoundland

Hidden Newfoundland is a collection of Newfoundland’s most incredible places, how to find them, and how they came to be hidden or forgotten. If you are interested in resettled communities, abandoned buildings, lost ruins, aircraft crash sites, natural wonders, or just simply wishing to explore a new side of Newfoundland, then make sure you check out Hidden Newfoundland: 120+ ghost towns, natural wonders, and other off-the-beaten-path destinations.
Hidden Atlantic Canada
After spending years growing, learning, and exploring in my home province of Newfoundland I wanted to see what else was hidden in the world. Specifically, throughout our neighbors in the Maritime Provinces which includes Novas Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Isalnd. Like my home province of Newfoundland and Labrador, each province has its own unique and rich history, culture, and geology which when given the time and curiosity can lead to finding incredible and wondrous locations known to only a select few or perhaps forgotten altogether.
HiddenAtlanticCanada.ca shares the stories of these places while incorporating the many fascinating locations I have visited throughout Newfoundland. At the end of this project, I plan on releasing two additional guidebooks on the amazing places I find. The first will be titled Hidden Nova Scotia expected to be released later in 2023 and a second book titled Hidden New Brunswick & Prince Edward Island that will be released the following year.
